Caramel Frosting - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 1/4 stick margarine
    1 c. evaporated milk
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    1/3 c. powdered sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Brown 3/4 cup sugar in iron skillet, add margarine and then 1 cup sugar, mix well and add milk. Bring to a boil and add remaining sugar. Let boil until soft ball forms in water. Remove from heat and beat with mixer for a few minutes, beating in powdered sugar, shortening and vanilla. Beat until spreading consistency. When cake is cool, spread onto layers. This will cover a 3 layer cake.
