Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sifted flour
    2 tsp. baking soda
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    2 tsp. ground cloves
    2 c. thick applesauce
    2 c. chopped raisins
    1 c. chopped dates
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 eggs, well beaten
Preparation
    Mix and sift flour, baking soda, salt and spices; mix about 1/2 cup with nuts and fruit.
    Cream shortening until soft and smooth, gradually adding sugar, creaming until fluffy.
    Beat in eggs.
    Add flour mixture alternately with applesauce, beating well after each addition.
    Beat in fruit-nut mixture.
    Turn into greased pans in moderately slow oven (325\u00b0), baking about 1 hour. Nuts and dates may be omitted, if desired.
    Yield: 2 small loaves (6 x 3-inches) or 1 large loaf (11 x 3 x 3-inches).
