Ingredients

1/2 c. soft shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. molasses
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. sugar
2 1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
Preparation

Mix together shortening, sugar, egg and molasses.
Add spices, salt and soda to flour.
Mix into creamy mixture.
Chill dough thoroughly.
Roll out into balls the size of walnuts. Dip tops in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
Place sugar side up on a greased cookie sheet 3-inches apart. Bake at 300\u00b0 until soft, not hard.
