Ingredients

2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation

Measure and sift together the flour, cream of tartar and baking soda.
Beat together until fluffy the butter, shortening, sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla.
Gradually add in dry ingredients.
Blend in walnuts.
Form dough into small balls about the size of walnuts.
Dip in water, then in sugar.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 15 minutes on cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
