Country Style Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 to 2 lb. beef stew meat
    1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 large onion, slivered or 1 (8 oz.) pkg. tiny whole frozen onions
    1 c. undiluted canned beef consomme
    3 carrots, peeled and sliced
    3 parsnips, peeled and sliced
    4 stalks celery, sliced
    2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
    8 to 10 whole white peppercorns
    2 bay leaves (optional)
Preparation
    Cut stew meat in chunks.
    Brown meat in butter or margarine in heavy skillet, a few chunks at a time.
    Place in casserole when browned.
