Layered Mixed Vegetable Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, torn in bite size pieces
    1/2 c. chopped onion (any kind)
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    1/2 c. chopped green pepper
    10 oz. pkg. frozen peas, thawed and drained
    1 c. mayo
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
    10 slices bacon, fried, drained and crumbled
    8 oz. can water chestnuts, drained and sliced
Preparation
    In a large bowl or 13 x 9-inch pan, layer lettuce and onion. Spoon 1/2 cup mayo evenly over top.
    Layer celery, green pepper and peas.
    Spread remaining mayo over top.
    Sprinkle sugar, cheese and bacon over top.
    Cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours.
    Add water chestnuts.
    Toss before serving.
