Lollipops - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. light corn syrup
    1/2 tsp. red or green food coloring
    1 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
Preparation
    In medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup and 1/2 cup of water.
    Cook over medium heat, without stirring, until candy thermometer registers 300\u00b0 or until small amount of mixture forms hard brittle threads when dropped into cold water.
    Remove from heat.
    Cool mixture slightly.
    Add food coloring and flavoring, blending well.
    Place 24 small wooden skewers 4 inches apart on lightly oiled cookie sheets.
    Drop candy mixture from tip of tablespoon over skewers to form 2 to 3-inch circles.
    When lollipops have hardened, place on wax paper.
    Cool completely. Store in cool, dry place.
    Makes 24 lollipops.
