Ingredients

1 teacup fresh butter
3 1/2 teacups flour
1 c. sweet milk
2 tsp. cream of tartar
little essence of lemon
3 teacups sugar
10 egg whites
1 tsp. soda
Preparation

Bake in cakes an inch thick and spread with icing, having grated coconut stirred in, pile one on the other, allowing a little time for drying off.
In making the icing, reserve some plain for the outside of cake; finish off by sprinkling on the prepared coconut.
