Date-Nut Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. sifted flour
    1/4 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 pkg. dates, cut in small pieces
    1 c. boiling water
    1/4 c. butter or margarine
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg
Preparation
    Heat oven to 300\u00b0.
    Sift flour with baking powder and salt, then stir in the nuts.
    Mix soda into the dates, then pour boiling water over them.
    Cream the butter until fluffy.
    Add the sugar; cream again, then beat in the egg.
    Add the flour mixture; mix thoroughly, then stir in the soaked dates.
    Pour into a buttered 9-inch square pan and bake for 1 hour.
    Cool on a rack, then turn out and cut into squares.
    Serve with any pudding sauce.
