Southern Okra - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 c. sliced fresh okra (1/2 in. thick)
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
3 medium tomatoes, peeled and chopped
Hot cooked rice, optional
Preparation

Place okra in a saucepan, add 1 in. of water.
Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside.
Combine the next four ingredients, set aside. In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat.
Saute onion and green pepper until tender.
Stir in sugar mixture and tomatoes, cook for 5 minutes.
Add okra and simmer until heated through, stirring as little as possible.
Serve with rice if desired.
