Ingredients

1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. blackberry jam
4 egg whites, beaten
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar until light.
Add beaten egg yolks and vanilla.
Beat until blended well.
Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with buttermilk.
Stir in jam; fold in egg whites.
Bake in tube pan in 325\u00b0 oven for 30 minutes. Increase heat to 350\u00b0 and cook for 45 minutes or until cake is done.
Allow to cool in pan for 20 minutes before removing from pan.
