Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    2 c. sugar
    3 eggs
    3 c. flour
    2 c. dried apples or applesauce
    1 tsp. soda (in hot apples)
    1 lb. raisins
    1 lb. figs, chopped
    1 c. walnuts
    1 c. strawberry preserves
    1 Tbsp. cloves
    1 Tbsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. nutmeg
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Add beaten eggs. Stir soda into applesauce.
    Reserve 1 cup flour to dredge fruit and nuts. Sift the remaining dry ingredients.
    Add to the creamed mixture alternately with applesauce. Add nuts, fruit and preserves.
    Mix thoroughly.
    Bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 300\u00b0 for 3 hours. Cool.
    Put in closed container and lay apples slices on top or place a small glass of wine in middle of cake for moisture.
