Divinity - cooking recipe

Ingredients

5 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 c. white Karo
pinch of salt
4 beaten egg whites
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts (if desired)

Preparation

Mix the first 3 ingredients thoroughly and boil until mixture spins a long thread (234\u00b0).
Take out 1 cup and gradually pour over beaten egg whites.
When rest of syrup cracks when dropped in cold water-test (270\u00b0), take from heat and pour slowly over first part, mixing constantly.
Add vanilla and nuts if desired.
