Spicy Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

2 1/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
5 Tbsp. water
6 medium apples
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. sugar
4 Tbsp. butter
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. water
Preparation

Sift together the flour and salt.
With pastry blender, cut in the shortening until it looks like corn meal. Add the 5 tablespoons of water and mix until dough clings together. Round into a ball and let stand a few minutes.
Roll dough 1/2-inch thick on floured board. Cut in 7-inch squares.
Pare and core the apples.
Place apple on each square. Fill apples with mixture of 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
Dot with butter. Moisten points of dough; bring opposite points up over the apple overlapping them and seal.
