German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 pkg. German sweet chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. butter or other shortening
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks, unbeaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
3 egg whites
Preparation

Melt chocolate in boiling water and cool.
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each addition.
Add chocolate and vanilla.
Sift together salt, soda and flour.
Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating well after each addition.
Then beat the batter until it is smooth.
Beat egg whites until very stiff peaks form.
Fold into batter.
Pour into three 8 or 9-inch cake pans, greased.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes or bake in two square 9-inch pans, 40 to 45 minutes.
Frost with Coconut Pecan Frosting.
