Chocolate Chip And Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. dates
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tsp. cocoa
1 3/4 c. flour
6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Preparation

Dice dates into bowl. Sprinkle soda over dates and pour boiling water over -- let cool. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla, cocoa and flour. Beat together, then add date mixture. Pour into 13 x 10 cake pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over the batter. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream if desired.
