Onion Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large onion (Vidalia, if available)
    1 c. flour
    2 Tbsp. oil
    1 egg, separated
    2/3 c. water
    Crisco
Preparation
    Separate onion into rings and place in ice water in refrigerator for 1 hour.
    Mix together flour, oil, egg and water in a bowl.
    Beat egg white until stiff.
    Fold egg white into flour mixture.
    Coat onion rings by dipping into mixture, then drop rings into hot Crisco.
    Fry until golden brown.
    Salt, if desired.
