Christmas Cherries - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. grated orange rind
    1 c. flour
    1 egg, separated
    1 1/2 Tbsp. lemon rind
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar; add beaten egg yolk, vanilla, orange and lemon rind and lemon juice and mix well.
    Add flour. Chill.
    Roll into small balls 1/2-inch in diameter.
    Roll in slightly beaten egg whites, then in chopped nuts.
    Place on cookie sheet and press on a small piece of candied cherry.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 20 minutes.
