Congo Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2/3 c. butter or shortening (1 stick plus 3 Tbsp.)
    1 lb. brown sugar (2 1/4 c.)
    2 2/3 c. flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3 eggs
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1/2 pkg. chocolate chips
Preparation
    Melt butter in saucepan.
    Add brown sugar and stir until blended.
    Remove from heat and cool about 10 minutes.
    Beat in eggs, one at a time.
    Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
    Stir in flour mixture, nuts and chocolate chips.
    Mix well. Spread in greased 10 x 13-inch pan or 10 x 15-inch.
    Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 350\u00b0 to 375\u00b0.
    Cut into squares when slightly cooled.
