French Fried Onion Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. allspice or cloves, ground
    1/2 tsp. ground turmeric
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 egg, well beaten
    2/3 c. water
    3 medium yellow onions
    3/4 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, allspice, turmeric and sugar.
    Beat egg with water and add to flour mixture.
    Mix well to make a smooth batter.
    Cut onions into rings 1/4-inch thick and mix with salt. Dip onion rings in batter, a few at a time.
    Fry in deep fat heated to 360\u00b0 until rings are browned and float to top of fat.
    Remove rings from fat with slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
    Makes 6 servings.
