Candy Canes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 1/4 c. sifted flour
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 stick butter
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1/4 c. milk
    red food color
    1/2 tsp. peppermint or almond extract
Preparation
    Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
    Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl.
    Beat in egg and extract.
    Add flour mixture alternately with milk.
    Spoon half of dough into another bowl and tint pink.
    Pinch off a teaspoon of each dough.
    Roll each into pencil thin strips about 5 inches long. Place side by side and pinch ends together.
    Twist and place
    on ungreased cookie sheets, bending into cane shape.
    Bake at 350\u00b0
    for 10 minutes.
