Vanilla Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. white syrup
    2 c. heavy cream
    1/2 tsp. salt
    4 Tbsp. butter
    4 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Combine sugar, syrup, cream and salt in heavy large pan. Place over low heat and stir until sugar dissolves.
    Cook to 232\u00b0 (very soft ball), stirring occasionally.
    Add butter a little at a time to prevent scorching.
    Test often in cold water (240\u00b0) to determine the consistency desired in the finished caramels. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
    Pour into buttered 9 x 13-inch pan.
