Southern Banana Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (4 serving size) pkg. vanilla or banana cream Cook 'n Serve pudding or pie filling
    2 1/2 c. milk
    2 egg yolks, well beaten
    30 to 35 vanilla wafer cookies
    2 large bananas, sliced
    2 egg whites
    dash of salt
    1/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Stir pudding mix into milk in medium saucepan.
    Add egg yolks.
    Stirring constantly, cook on medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil.
    Remove from heat.
    Arrange layer of cookies on bottom and up sides of 1 1/2-quart baking dish. Add layer of banana slices; top with 1/3 of the pudding.
    Repeat layers, ending with pudding.
    Beat egg whites and salt with electric mixer on high until foamy.
    Add in sugar; beat until stiff peaks form.
    Spoon onto pudding.
    Bake 10 to 15 minutes or until meringue is a light brown.
    Serve warm or chilled.
    Makes 8 servings.
