Lazy Person'S Cabbage Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. raw rice
    3 slices bacon, cooked crisp and drained
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 large cabbage, coarsely chopped
    3/4 to 1 lb. ground round
    1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes (and juice)
    1/4 c. vinegar
    1/2 tsp. crushed thyme
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 bay leaf
    2 Tbsp. brown sugar
Preparation
    Cook rice following label directions, but cook for only five minutes.
    Drain and set aside.
    Pour off all but one tablespoon of bacon fat and saute onion until tender.
    Crumble ground round into cooked onion, cooking until meat is thoroughly cooked.
    Stir in bacon, rice and half of the salt and pepper.
    Set aside.
