Date-Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. cut up pitted dates
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    3/4 c. boiling water
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. granulated sugar
    1 1/2 c. flour
Preparation
    Mix first 4 ingredients with a fork; add shortening and water. Let stand 20 minutes; heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Beat eggs with fork, add vanilla, sugar and flour, beating with fork.
    Add date mixture, mixing to just blend.
    Bake 1 hour and 5 minutes or until done.
    Makes 1 loaf.
