Pickled Beets - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (8 1/4 oz.) can sliced beets
    1/2 c. vinegar
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    dash of cloves
    1 small bay leaf
    1 small onion, thinly sliced
Preparation
    Drain beets, reserving 1/4 cup liquid.
    Put beets into small serving dish.
    In small saucepan, combine beet liquid and remaining ingredients.
    Bring to boiling point.
    Reduce heat; simmer 5 minutes.
    Pour over beets.
    Refrigerate until well chilled, about 1 hour.
