Manhattan Clam Chowder - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. salt pork
    1 c. chopped onion
    4 qt. clams with juice, chopped
    8 diced potatoes
    2 qt. water
    1/2 bay leaf
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    2 c. tomatoes
Preparation
    Cook pork until light brown.
    Drain fat.
    Add rest of ingredients and cook for 20 minutes.
    Season to taste.
    For New England style, omit last 4 ingredients and after cooking, add 2 tablespoons butter and 2 cups of milk.
