Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/4 c. butter
    6 apples
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. baking powder
    3/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
    1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    To make sauce, combine sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cook 5 minutes and add butter.
    Pare and core apples.
    Combine flour, salt and baking powder; cut in shortening.
    Add milk all at once and stir just until flour is moistened.
    Roll out 1/4-inch thick.
    Cut six 5-inch squares.
    Place one apple on each square; sprinkle generously with additional sugar and spices.
    Dot with butter; fold corners up over apple and pinch edges.
    Place 1-inch apart in greased baking pan.
    Pour over sauce and bake in 375\u00b0 oven for 35 minutes.
    Serve warm with cream.
