Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. bean mixture
    1 tsp. salt
    water
    1 lb. ham
    1 large onion
    1 clove minced garlic
    1 large can tomatoes
    1 hot pepper (whole; optional)
Preparation
    Wash bean mixture.
    Add salt and enough water to cover over 1 inch.
    Soak overnight.
    Drain and add 2 quarts of water along with ham chunks, diced onion and garlic.
    Simmer until tender.
    Add 1 can of tomatoes and 1 whole hot pepper (optional).
    Simmer 1 more hour.
    Can also be done in crock-pot.
