Old Fashioned Stew(Basic Stew Mixture) - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/3 c. shortening
5 lb. beef stew, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes
4 c. water
1 tsp. salt
2 c. chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
Preparation

Melt shortening in Dutch oven. Brown a portion of the meat on all sides in hot shortening. Remove browned meat from Dutch oven. Set aside. Repeat until all meat is brown. Return to Dutch oven. Add water, onions, garlic and salt. Simmer, covered, until meat is tender, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. When cold, skim fat. Pour stew mixture into 3 (1-quart) freezer containers. Seal, label and freeze. Makes 3 quarts.
