Fried Green Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. self-rising flour
    1/4 c. cornmeal
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    3/4 c. milk
    3 to 4 green tomatoes, cut into 1/4-inch slices
    vegetable oil or bacon drippings or combination of both
Preparation
    Combine the first 5 ingredients; mix until smooth.
    Working in batches, dip tomato slices into batter; allow excess to drip back into bowl.
    Fry in 2 inches hot oil (375\u00b0) in a large, heavy skillet until browned, turning once carefully with tongs. Transfer to a colander to drain.
    Do not drain on paper towels, as this will make them soggy.
    Stand them up like wheels in the serving dish, instead of stacking them.
