3 c. fresh or frozen blackberries*
1 c. sugar, divided
2 T. water
1/3 c. butter or margarine
1 c. all-purpose flour
1 T. baking powder
1 c. milk
Cool Whip, chocolate syrup or ice cream as optional topping garnishes

*Blueberries, strawberries or raspberries can be substituted for the blackberries.
