Ingredients

5 eggs
2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
1 c. butter
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda (level)
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, cloves and allspice
1 c. jam or more as desired
1 tsp. vanilla
red cake coloring
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time; beat.
Sift dry ingredients.
Add alternately with buttermilk.
Add jam.
Add 3/4 cup boiling water; mix well just before putting into pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour or longer.
