Ingredients

1 1/2 c. cut dates
3/4 c. water
1/4 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. butter
1 c. coconut
1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation

Combine dates, water and sugar in saucepan.
Bring to boil; simmer, stirring constantly, until thick.
Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.
Sift together flour and salt; stir in brown sugar.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in coconut and nuts.
Press 1/2 crumb mixture in the bottom of a greased 13 x 9-inch pan.
Spread with the filling.
Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture on top and press down lightly.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
Cool; cut into bars.
