Buttermilk Pecan Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    2 Tbsp. white corn syrup
    1 stick margarine or butter
    1 c. pecans
    1/4 tsp. butter flavoring
    1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients except nuts and flavorings.
    Use a large heavy kettle.
    Stir only until sugar is dissolved.
    Turn heat low and continue cooking until soft ball is formed in cold water or until it reaches 235\u00b0 on candy thermometer.
    The candy gradually browns.
    Remove from heat.
    Stir in nuts and flavorings. Beat until slightly thickened and pour into 8-inch square greased pan.
