Nut Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. Karo syrup
    1 1/2 c. evaporated milk
    1/3 c. butter
    1 c. nutmeats
Preparation
    Stir sugar, syrup and milk together.
    Add butter and start on low fire to cook.
    Gradually increase heat as mixture starts cooking.
    Cook until hard ball forms when dropped in cold water. This takes 1/2 to 1 hour.
    Stir continuously.
    Cooks down very thick.
    Remove from fire, stir in nutmeats and spread on buttered tin.
    Cut in small squares and wrap in waxed paper.
