Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 stick butter
    2 c. sugar
    5 egg whites
    2 c. plain flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. pecans
    1/2 c. shortening
    5 egg yolks
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 can coconut
Preparation
    Beat egg whites until stiff. Set aside. Cream butter and shortening together. Add sugar. Beat well. Add egg yolks. Beat well. Combine flour and soda together; sift 3 times. Add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately to batter. Add vanilla, coconut and chopped nuts. Fold in egg whites, then pour into three 9-inch pans, greased and floured. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 minutes.
