Bread Crust Apple Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 slices bread
    1 pt. milk
    2 beaten eggs
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    5 large apples
    4 Tbsp. butter
    1/3 c. fine bread crumbs
Preparation
    Butter a round cake or pie plate.
    Break bread into small pieces and put in pan.
    Add milk and let bread soak a little.
    Add eggs, sugar and vanilla and stir lightly together.
    Pare and core the apples and cut as for cake.
    Place on top of bread mixture. Use 4 tablespoons of butter and dot top of cake.
    Sprinkle with fine bread crumbs and cinnamon or nutmeg as preferred.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour.
    Apples should be brown and tender when done.
