Whole Candied Yams - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 potatoes (the size of an egg)
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. water
    1/4 lb. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Select and wash potatoes.
    Put in pot. Cover with water.
    Cook until skin will slip. Drain off hot water. Cover with cold water and peel.
    Put the sugar, water, butter, vanilla and salt on stove.
    Cook until thick as syrup.
    Drop in peeled potatoes. Cook until syrup is thick. Turn potatoes once while cooking.
