Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 to 30 medium size cucumbers
    8 small white onions
    2 large green peppers
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. cloves or 1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    1 qt. cracked ice
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers and slice as thin as possible.
    Chop onions and peppers.
    Combine with cucumbers and salt.
    Add cracked ice.
    Let stand 3 to 4 hours; drain.
    Combine vinegar, sugar and spices in a large preserving kettle.
    Bring to a boil.
    Add drained cucumbers; heat thoroughly, but do not boil.
    Pack while hot into sterilized jars and seal.
