Early Bird Coffee Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    2 c. brown sugar
    2/3 c. shortening
    1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
    2 eggs
Preparation
    Sift first 6 ingredients into mixing bowl.
    Cut in sugar and shortening until crumbly.
    Reserve 1 cup for topping.
    Stir in milk and eggs just until all flour is moistened.
    Pour batter into greased 9-inch square pan.
    Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over batter.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
    Yield:
    9 to 12 servings.
