Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 to 30 medium cucumbers
    8 large white onions
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. cloves
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers and onions in large container.
    Cover with cracked ice.
    Let stand for 3 to 4 hours.
    Drain and drop in simmering solution of the remaining ingredients.
    Let cucumbers simmer in solution, but do not boil.
    Pack in canning jars and seal.
