Candied Yams - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 large sweet potatoes
    1 Tbsp. soda
    3/4 c. granulated sugar
    1/2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 orange, sliced thin
Preparation
    Peel the sweet potatoes and cut into large chunks.
    Cover with warm water and the soda; soak for 10 minutes, then drain.
    In saucepan, combine sugar, water, salt and orange slices.
    Bring to low boil, then add the raw potatoes and cook until syrup is thick and potatoes are done.
    When ready to dish, add 2 or 3 tablespoons butter.
    Serves 3 to 4.
