Pumpkin Bread - cooking recipe

2 3/4 c. sugar
2/3 c. Crisco
4 eggs, well beaten
2 c. pumpkin
2/3 c. water
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2/3 c. chopped nuts
2/3 c. dates, chopped
1 pt. flour
a large pinch of salt
2 Tbsp. lard
cold water
Preparation

Combine flour and salt.
Work into this thoroughly two tablespoonfuls of lard, and wet with cold water.
Roll out thin, enough for one pie.
Pastry should be handled as little as possible, and placing it on ice or in a very cold place will make it flaky.
