Southern Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. cornmeal
    1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. salt
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
    salad oil or shortening
Preparation
    Combine dry ingredients; add buttermilk, egg and onion, stirring well.
    Carefully drop batter by tablespoon into deep hot oil (370\u00b0), cook only a few at a time, turning once.
    Fry until hush puppies are golden brown (3 to 5 minutes).
    Drain well on paper towels.
