German Potato Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    potatoes, boiled in their skins, cooled, peeled and sliced *
    1/2 finely chopped onion
    3 Tbsp. mayonnaise
    3 Tbsp. salad oil
    1 1/2 tsp. salt or to taste
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    6 Tbsp. salad or tarragon vinegar
    1/2 to 1 c. boiling water (depending on consistency of potatoes)
Preparation
    *Three-quart pot makes enough to take to a potluck dinner; recipe may be reduced for a family dinner.
