Mike'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. cucumbers, thinly sliced
    8 medium onions, sliced
    3 cloves garlic
    1/3 c. pickling salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. cider vinegar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    ice chips
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers very thinly.
    Add sliced onions and whole garlic cloves.
    Add salt.
    Cover completely with cracked ice and then mix thoroughly.
    Let stand 3 hours.
    Drain well.
    Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cucumber mixture.
    Heat just to a boil.
    Seal in hot, sterilized jars.
    Makes 8 pints.
