Sweet Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    16 lb. cucumbers
    10 lb. sugar
    1/2 box alum (1 1/2 oz.)
    1 gal. vinegar (red or white)
    7 boxes pickling spices
    salt water to float an egg
Preparation
    Soak
    cucumbers in salt water 14 days.\tRemove slime on top every
    couple
    of
    days.
    Weight
    down
    so\tcucumbers are covered. Remove,
    rinse
    and
    slice
    thin\tand
    round.
    Soak overnight in\talum water.
    Rinse and cover with vinegar for 6 hours.\tThrow away
    vinegar.
    Place
    a
    layer of cucumbers, a layer
    of sugar and a layer of pickling spices until container is
    3/4
    full. Cover.
    In\ta few days the sugar will melt and make
    syrup\tto cover
    pickles.
    Leave in container or put in jars\tand cover top. Do not process.
    Keeps indefinitely.
    No need to refrigerate.
