Ingredients

3 or 4 large onions
1 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
1 egg
2 Tbsp. oil or butter
Preparation

Cut onions to form \"petals,\" starting in the center.
Cut outwards in spoke-type fashion.
Cut down to, but not through, the root.
Soak in ice water for 20 to 30 minutes.
Drain well and pat dry.
Mix ingredients to make batter.
Dip onions in batter; drain excess batter.
Fry in 375\u00b0 deep fat oil until golden, light brown and crisp.
Drain on paper towels.
Serve with Ranch, Blue cheese or Honey Dijon dressing.
