24 Hour Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce
    1 large onion, sliced thin
    1/3 c. celery, chopped fine
    2 cans sliced water chestnuts, drained
    1 large can small English peas, drained
    1 pt. mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 c. grated Cheddar cheese
    1/2 lb. cooked, crumbled bacon
Preparation
    Place all ingredients in layers as listed.
    Refrigerate overnight.
    When ready to serve, add crumbled bacon.
